[00:20.05]Hey, again, this is Lynda,
your personal person.
[00:26.37]Today, I’m still with the dads.
[00:29.41]And today, I want to say,
‘Your Kids Don’t Need a Perfect Dad’.
[00:35.65]So to that dad who beat himself up today
for losing his temper,
[00:40.41]your kids don’t need a perfect dad.
[00:42.93]They need a real one.
[00:45.45]You shouted, and then you felt guilty
the whole day, or was it the whole night?
[00:52.69]You were tired from work, and there were
just be being kids, noisy, needy,
[00:56.89]‘nini’ (whatever), and you snapped.
[00:59.97]And now you’re sitting in your car or in
the bathroom, or in the kitchen, or in the
[01:04.25]veranda, the balcony, and you’re
thinking, “I’m just like my father.
[01:10.01]I’m failing them.”
Listen, every good dad has that moment.
[01:18.41]The difference between a good dad and a
bad dad, it’s not that
[01:23.13]good dads never lose it.
[01:25.49]It’s that good dads come back and repair.
[01:31.41]Perfection is not what builds your kids.
[01:35.73]You know what does?
[01:37.45]Connection.
[01:39.77]Go back to them, get down at their level.
[01:43.49]Then say, “Hey, I’m
sorry, I shouted earlier.
[01:46.49]I was tired and stressed,
and it’s not your fault.
[01:51.61]You didn’t deserve that.
[01:52.93]Will you forgive me?”
You see, it’s that one sentence
[01:58.05]that teaches them more than
100 perfect days ever could.
[02:02.49]It teaches them how to take
responsibility, how to apologise,
[02:06.41]how to regulate emotions.
[02:09.13]You’re not ruining them.
[02:10.89]You’re raising them.
[02:13.21]And part of raising is repairing.
[02:17.41]So let go of perfect.
[02:19.77]Aim for present.
[02:22.13]Aim for honest.
[02:24.41]Aim for trying again tomorrow.
[02:28.21]You see, your kids already
think you’re a superhero.
[02:31.97]You don’t need to be
flawless to keep that keep.
[02:36.17]Just be real.
