“To the Woman Who Forgot Herself Part 2…” It’s Not Selfish to Want More!

This is the second episode of the 5-part miniseries, “To the Woman Who Forgot Herself: Come Back Home to Yourself” in the Lynda: Rooted&Real podcast.
Wanting more from life doesn’t make you selfish; it shows you still have hopes, needs, and a sense of purpose. In ‘To the Woman Who Forgot Herself Part 2’, Lynda invites women to listen to those inner wants instead of pushing them aside for everyone else.
Your ambitions may have been buried beneath work, care, or duty, but they haven’t disappeared. Giving yourself time, joy, and room to grow is an act of care, not a betrayal of the people you love. Join Lynda to name what you want and take your first honest step towards it.

[00:17.81]Hi, pretty woman.
[00:19.65]This is Lynda again on Rooted&Real.
[00:24.45]Today our episode is on you, woman.
[00:28.17]You, who is forgotten.
[00:31.61]Here it is: ‘It’s Not
Selfish to Want More’.
[00:36.65]So to that woman who feels guilty for
wanting more, you love your life, but
[00:40.37]sometimes you lie awake thinking,
“Is this it?” And then you even
[00:45.81]feel guilty for thinking about that.
[00:50.33]So there’s this thing that says, You
know, you have so much to be grateful for.
[00:56.77]A family, a roof, people who love you.
[01:00.73]When that little voice whispers, “I want
more.” You shush it, ‘unainyamazisha’ (you
[01:05.01]silence it) that
you tell yourself, “Who am I to complain?
[01:10.33]Other women have it worse.”
So you silence your ambition.
[01:14.09]You shrink your desire.
[01:15.89]You tell yourself, “You should
be content.” But here it is.
[01:21.29]Wanting more doesn’t
mean you are ungrateful.
[01:24.77]It means you are alive.
[01:27.93]You are allowed to love your
children and miss your freedom.
[01:31.41]You are allowed to love your partner
and want your own purpose.
[01:35.13]You are allowed to be grateful for this
life and still dream of
[01:39.89]another version of it.
[01:41.97]Two things can be true at the same time.
Okay?
[01:46.69]So It’s not selfish to want more.
[01:50.69]More peace, more joy, more money
that you made, more space to be you,
[02:00.49]more conversations that don’t revolve
around kids or bills, more purpose
[02:06.73]outside of taking care of everybody else.
[02:10.37]For years, you are told to be selfless,
to be humble, to not want too much.
[02:16.65]But sweetheart, your
desires are not dangerous.
[02:19.81]They are directions.
[02:22.13]That business idea,
that course you saved, that trip you
[02:26.73]want to take alone, that’s not selfish.
[02:29.81]That’s your soul knocking,
telling you, “I’m still here.
[02:32.81]Don’t forget me.” You don’t have to
blow up your life to honour your wants.
[02:37.41]You just have to stop
apologising for them.
[02:40.37]Write it down, say it out loud.
[02:42.45]Let yourself want it.
[02:44.21]Because a woman who allows herself to want
more teaches her daughters
[02:49.61]that they can, too.
[02:52.29]It’s not selfish.
[02:54.65]It’s sacred.
