“When Overwhelmed Part 4…” You’re Not a Burden!

This is the fourth episode of the 5-part miniseries, “When Overwhelmed: Rest. Breathe. Your Story Continues.” in the Lynda: Rooted&Real podcast.
Needing help when life feels heavy doesn’t make you a burden; it means you shouldn’t have to carry it alone. In ‘When Overwhelmed Part 4,’, find simple ways to tell someone you trust that you’re having a hard time. You might say, “I don’t need advice right now. Could you listen for a few minutes?” Pick a calm moment, share only what you can, and let them know what would help.
A kind response can ease the weight, and honest connection can be a first step towards healing.
When it’s done, stop for a moment and notice the progress before deciding what comes next.

[00:17.49]Hello, hello.
[00:19.09]This is Lynda,
and I’m back with Rooted&Real.
[00:24.09]We’ve been talking about being overwhelmed.
[00:27.69]And today, there’s just something I want
to say: ‘You’re Not a Burden’ for struggling.
[00:35.65]So, you know, sometimes
you ask yourself, “Why did you go so quiet?”
[00:43.97]“When you started feeling low,
why did you disappear?”
[00:49.05]“And why did you stop replying?”
[00:51.65]“Why did you say, “I’m fine…”,
when really you were not?”
[00:57.13]Here’s the reason.
[01:00.93]So you thought, if you tell someone,
“I’m struggling,” it’s a burden.
[01:04.33]I get you because
you get tired of saying it.
[01:11.97]You thought, “They have
their own problems.
[01:14.13]I don’t want to add mine,” which is okay.
[01:18.13]So you isolated yourself, and that
isolation made it a little heavier.
[01:26.49]So can I tell you the truth?
[01:29.49]You’re not a burden
for having human feelings.
[01:32.81]You’re not too much for needing people.
[01:35.41]That is what people are for.
[01:37.29]Think about someone you love.
[01:39.13]If they came to you and said,
“I’m having a really hard time,”
[01:43.77]would you think they’re a burden?
[01:46.09]Or would you want to sit with them?
[01:49.09]You’d want to sit with them, right?
[01:51.29]So why do you think you’re different?
[01:54.57]You’re not.
[01:56.41]The right people do not want the perfect,
always smiling version of you.
[02:01.37]They want you the real you,
the tired you, the struggling you.
[02:07.45]You don’t need to give a big speech.
[02:09.37]You don’t need to explain everything.
[02:12.13]You can just send this text
today to one safe person.
[02:15.41]“Hey, I’ve been going
through a low moment lately.
[02:19.89]You don’t need to fix anything for me.
[02:23.25]I just want you to know,
and maybe we can talk for 10 minutes.”
[02:27.45]That is not weakness, that is courage.
[02:30.77]You’re never meant to heal
alone in a locked room.
[02:33.45]We heal in connection,
in small moments of being seen.
[02:37.73]So you’re allowed to ask for help.
[02:40.13]You’re allowed to be held.
[02:42.29]And if you have no one today,
please hear me.
[02:45.85]I see you.
[02:47.21]This voice is sitting with you.
[02:49.05]You’re not alone in that room.
[02:52.85]Tomorrow is our last episode,
and it will be your small come back.
[02:59.53]Remember, you got this and I got you.
