“Quietly Struggling Part 3…” The Smile You Wear Is Heavy!

This is the third episode of the 5-part miniseries, “Quietly Struggling: Hidden Battles, Unbreakable Spirits” in the Lynda: Rooted&Real podcast.
When hiding pain feels easier than speaking, ‘Quietly Struggling Part 3’ offers a gentle reminder: the right people won’t pull away when you open up.
You don’t need perfect words or a full explanation to say that you’re having a hard day. A trusted friend, kind listener, or support group can give you room to breathe without judgement. Let someone see what you’re carrying, even if you share only a little at first.
Support begins with one honest sentence.

[00:17.49]Hey, this is Lynda again.
[00:20.53]We are on the third episode of the series,
To the One Who is ‘Struggling Quietly’.
[00:29.13]You see, that smile you wear every day?
[00:33.65]I know how heavy it is.
[00:36.97]I’ve struggled with it.
[00:38.57]It’s called a ‘customer service smile’.
[00:42.01]The: “I’m good.
How are you?” smile.
[00:45.41]You wear it so well that when you finally
to say I’m not okay,
[00:49.37]no one will believe you.
[00:51.53]So what do you do?
[00:53.25]You keep it on.
[00:55.01]It’s easier than explaining
the storm inside.
[00:59.65]But that smile is costing you
the energy to hold it up.
[01:07.49]Connection, because
people love the mask, not you.
[01:12.97]Now, listen, and listen good, you don’t
owe anyone a smile when you’re hurting.
[01:20.73]You’re allowed to have a neutral face.
[01:23.17]You’re allowed to say, “I’m having a hard
day today…” without adding (anything).
[01:28.89]But it’s fine.
[01:30.77]The right people in your life will
not leave when you take the smile off.
[01:35.81]You know what they will do?
[01:37.93]They will come closer.
[01:41.17]Again, I’ll appreciate your comments.
[01:44.41]If you can follow me on Instagram, TikTok,
and YouTube
[01:49.41]on Lynda: Rooted&Real (@LyndaRootedNReal),
I shall totally appreciate.
