“Marriage Truths Part 5…” Staying Is a Daily Choice!

This is the fifth and final episode of the 5-part miniseries, “Marriage Truths: Embracing the Real Work of Love” in the Lynda: Rooted&Real podcast.
In the finale, ‘Marriage Truths Part 5’, Lynda reminds couples that staying together is a choice made each day, not a promise made once. That choice often appears in ordinary moments: speaking with care during a disagreement, listening fully instead of preparing a quick reply, and staying faithful even when no one else would know.
These actions may seem small, but they help build trust and show a partner that their feelings and needs matter.
The message also recognises that marriage includes both difficult stretches and routine days. A kind word after a tiring day, patience when plans change, or a willingness to talk through a problem can help partners feel valued. Faith can give couples strength and purpose as they continue to care for one another, especially when the work of staying connected feels hard.
A lasting marriage grows through the choices they make today and tomorrow.

[00:17.49]Hello.
Again, Lynda here on Rooted&Real.
[00:23.21]This is the last one on some truths,
just some, about marriage.
[00:28.89]Remember, you can comment, disagree,
and follow me.
[00:33.97]Keep following me on YouTube,
on Facebook, on Instagram, and on TikTok.
[00:40.89]Just type Lynda: Rooted&Real

[00:45.41]So staying is a daily choice.
[00:49.53]We think marriage is one big choice,
I do at the altar, and then you’re done.
[00:55.13]No.
[00:56.85]Marriage is choosing each other each
and every single morning after that.
[01:04.93]But don’t get me wrong,
I do is not past tense.
[01:08.45]It is present tense, I do.
[01:11.21]So, “I do today.
[01:14.13]I still do even when you snore.
[01:17.17]I still do even when we fought last
night.” So love is not a
[01:22.01]feeling that just stays.
[01:23.93]Love is a decision you
have to keep renewing.
[01:27.61]Every day you decide,
“Will I speak with respect today?
[01:31.93]Will I keep my phone down and listen?
[01:34.45]Will I protect this house from outsiders?
[01:37.65]Will I be faithful,
even in the smallest things?” The couples
[01:43.01]who make it don’t have less temptation.
[01:45.69]Don’t have less fights.
[01:48.09]They just have more commitment.
[01:51.45]They understand vows are not a prison.
[01:54.89]Vows are a promise that says,
“I won’t walk away when it
[01:58.77]gets too hard to love you.”
[02:00.93]“I’ll find a new way to love you.”
So if your marriage is struggling,
[02:06.33]don’t ask, “Do I still feel in
love?” That feeling will come and go.
[02:12.01]Ask, “Am I still choosing
this person today?
[02:16.77]Am I doing the small things that show I
choose them?” Because in the end,
[02:23.29]great marriages are not
built on great wedding days.
[02:27.45]They’re built on 10,000 small mornings
where two people quietly said,
[02:33.21]“I still do.” And that is a wrap.
